Recently, the capital’s authorities announced the imminent beginning of the competition for the supply of metro wagons. The tender will be one of the largest in the world in terms of purchased technology. Preliminary applications for participation in it were sent by the largest manufacturers of the metro trains from around the world: from Russia, Europe and Korea.
Among others, the intention to compete for this contract was stated by Siemens, with its last model of Inspiro wagons, supplied to a number of European cities. The competition will be held over the next, 2014, and in 2015, the supply of new wagons will begin. In total, until the end of 2020, the Moscow metro station intends to purchase about 3,000 wagons.
Judging by several news reports, the design of Inspiro wagons from Siemens has serious defects. On the first day of the compositions equipped with Inspiro wagons in the Warsaw Metro, one of the trains stuck at the end station. Later, during a peak hour, the mechanisms of sliding doors failed. None of the passengers suffered in these two incidents. However, last Sunday, in one of the Inspiro wagons a fire occurred during the movement, as a result of which the Warsaw subway support service was forced to evacuate all train passengers and several hundred people from the station. Light poisoning of combustion products received 9 people. As a result, the mayor’s office of the Polish capital decided to suspend the operation of the Inspiro cars and send them to an extraordinary inspection.
