Do -it -yourself putty with your own hands consists of several consistent actions. Let’s figure out which ones.
The process of applying putty occupies a lot of stages of preparatory and basic works:
1. In front of the first layer of putty, you need to carry out fruitful work with the ceiling coating. Remove the old whitewash and putty mixture. If your ceiling is a whole slab, then it will be easier for you to “remove” the old putty. Wet a roller in a bucket of water and “painting over” the entire ceiling. After that, we give time to “swell” the old putty and then remove it with a spatula with a hard blade, or some other tool with a wide blade. After that, let the ceiling finally dry and apply a couple of layers of primer and hardener (if your ceiling is porous)
2. After the soil dries on the ceiling, we proceed to the main repair process – putty. If on your ceiling you find irregularities that you could not hide the soil, we recommend that you apply the starting putty to “problematic” places. We wait until the putty layer dries and only after that we grind, and remove the uneven areas and smooth out the hollows. Apply the finish putty and let it dry. The time that the putty needs for the “drying” is indicated by the manufacturer on the package. It is best to use ready -made liquid putty, which is not much more expensive than dry, but the result will be much better, and in addition, such a putty will save you a lot of time spent in vain for cooking.
3. After the putty has completely dried up, we begin the most difficult process during the entire ceiling repair – grout. It is, at this stage of repair, the putty is easier to spoil, because if you hurry and wipe it not where necessary, you can create new bumps and a bunch of scratches. Smooth circular movements will minimize the appearance of irregularities and chips on a new layer. This work is painstaking and requires some dexterity, so you should act very carefully and accurately, so as not to remove excess.
