The application of tile glue has not the last value in such a difficult process as laying tiles. First of all, it is worth calculating how many tile glue you are able to use at a time.
If there is no experience – do not knead a large amount of mixture at once. It is also necessary to take into account that different grounds absorb moisture in different ways. The viability of glue is greatly influenced by the ambient temperature and humidity. Do not lay tiles in the heat, it is better to transfer the process to the evening, or morning.
To apply glue, a gear spatula (comb) is used. First, the glue is applied to the base with an uniform layer of the flat side of the spatula. Then the glue is leveled and stretched at the base of the gear side of the comb. In my opinion, it is more convenient to work with two spatulas, flat for applying glue and gear for leveling, or as they still say “combing” the solution.
Application of tile glue and leveling are performed at an angle of approximately 45-70 °, but they “comb” the solution according to a more acute – 30 °. The main thing is to try not to change the angle, then the glue will lie evenly and the same layer, which is very important for flat laying.
In the process of laying tiles, you should not forget to timely remove excess glue from tiles and sutures (it will be easier to lay the grout) with a damp rag. The glue is not removed immediately, but after some time, so as not to move the tile from the place.
On sale there are various spatulas for applying glue, you need to choose a spatula based on the size of the tile itself. The larger the area of the tile, the larger the size of the tooth of the comb, otherwise if you use a comb with a large tooth to lay small tiles, then too much glue will be squeezed into the seams as excess and vice versa – you can not lay glue for a large tile with a small comb for a large comb.
To lay small tiles, it is better to use V – a figurative comb with a tooth of 3-5 mm, to lay large tiles, V and U – figurative teeth 6-8 mm are used.
